Hands-free faucet available for kitchen
Summoning
your inner George Jetson and yelling "Turn on!" at your
faucet won't produce a torrent of water - not yet. But that reality
could materialize with a hands-free spout from Delta's Brizo brand.
Dubbed the Pascal, the swan-necked faucet springs to life either
when hands are placed under its spout or when its metallic skin
is tapped.
"We put cameras into people's kitchens and noticed either
dirty hands were causing them to turn the water on with their elbows,
or the water would often run forever," says Bob Rodenbeck of
Delta, whose Pascal starts at $700.
Fine-tuning such technology is key to hastening its adoption in
busy households. Fixture giant Kohler offers a touchless faucet
for the bathroom. But so far, its Tripoint ($500) is rarely purchased
for home use.
